So impressive are the 450 HP and 1,000 km of autonomy of the Audi Q8 Concept

On reason of the Detroit Motor Show, the NAIAS (North American Auto Show), Audihas unveiled the concept car that foreshadows one of future ships badges of the brand, Audi Q8, whose version of the series is scheduled for 2018. Audi Q8 could be the Ingolstadt answer to the BMW X 6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe if it weren't for itsdimensions, closer to the Range Rover that the German fellow.

It's an impressive SUV with "a design of coupé", according to its creators. In fact, it has more of the hatchback that Coupe or fastback bodywork. Anyway, this proposalbrings something fresh to the Audi Design, especially after the arrival of the Audi Q7.

5.020 mm long to 2,040 mm wide, Audi Q8 is a stunning model. It is wider than aRange Rover, although it is 21 cm shorter than the English model. On the other hand, the Q8 has a battle of 3 meters, along with a few short overhangs and wheels steps marked, it contributes to the solid appearance of the car. It is so impressive, that the 23 inch wheels (that hide carboceramicos 20-inch brake discs) look not so great.

Although inscribed within a certain continuity of the aesthetic language of Audi, theQ8 takes you towards a more expressive design. And it is that once designed the Q7, generally square and no personality, the Q8 only could improve. The front is characterized by its numerous air intakes (below the headlights Matrix laser, bumper, etc) and by imposing octagonal ironer brand. Behind, on the other hand, is radically different from the rest of the range Audi, although pilots remind me of the Volkswagen Tiguan.

Plug-in hybrid

At the mechanical level, the Audi Q8 is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system already known. Retrieves the Porsche Cayenne S propulsion system E-hybrid plug-ins, here promoting the electric motor and torque in general.

The gasoline engine is the same V6 3.0 litre turbo 330 HP flowing in the Cayenne,but its maximum torque of 410 Nm in the Porsche at 500 Nm in the Audi Q8. Similarly, the Cayenne 70 kW electric motor, delivered 100 kW in the Audi Q8 to 330 Nm(310 Nm in the Cayenne). At the end, Audi Q8 arrives with a total power of 449 HPand 700 Nm of torque.

Audi announces a range of 60 km in electric mode (17.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, rechargeable in 2 hours 30 in a take of 7.2 kW), while combining motor gasoline andelectric propulsion would be up to 1,000 km. Autonomy, taking account of the thermal propuslor and without the weight of the Q8 concoer (Audi has not disclosed it,)is surprising.

Suspension, Springs tires on all four wheels, is adaptive depending on the driving style selected, and may reduce the height of the car up to 90 mm in Sport mode.

If there is one aspect of the car that Audi has been imposed with pride in recent years is the perceived quality. Nobody is able to create an interior with a look so luxurious as Audi does. And the Q8 is no exception.

The dashboard displays a tense lines, a very refined and certainly futuristic appearance where everything is handled via touch screen - the two unique command beingthe knob by wire (wired) and electric brake-. Back, passengers also have a central console for the HVAC controls and multimedia system.

We would like that in the series version of the Audi Q8, whose production will be done in the factory Bratislava Volkswagen, Audi executives dare to keep the cockpit.

On the other hand, notably the Audi Q8 series will share the platform with the evolution of the Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, for it would not be surprising see this evolution of the hybrid drive also in Porsche and Volkswagen.
